In February, a 5- to 6-year-old brown dog followed its infected owner to a hospital in Wuhan, Hubei province, and had been waiting in front of the hospital ever since, reported by foreign media.

The boss of supermarket Wu Cuifen found out the dog did not leave at work, hence he named it "Xiao Bao" and give it food."

They said the owner of the brown dog was an old man, got infected by COVID-19, went there to see the doctor. However, the master died, it just doesn't know, just stay in the hospital looking for his master".

Many medical staff and patients noticed the presence of  Xiao Bao every day. They felt very sympathetic, and even describe it as "the real version of Hachiko Dog". The supermarket owner also planned to take Xiao Bao home for adoption, but it insisted on staying in the hospital. "He doesn't come back and walk with us. He sends us to the road, no matter how far away he is, he still comes back to the original spot by himself."

Every time a stranger enters the supermarket, or there is a sound in the environment, Xiao Bao will immediately take a look at them or smell the stranger. "Although we know Xiao Bao cannot speak, we understand that he will continue to search for his owner," he said.

However, as the hospital returned to normal operation, Xiao Bao could no longer stay in the hospital due to health problems and the possibility that some patients were afraid of dogs. The supermarket owner contacted Wuhan's small animal protection association, in order to find a good owner for Xiao Bau.

She said Xiao Bao was initially scared when the association staff arrived. They spent about half an hour playing ball games with him patiently in the supermarket to build a good relationship with him. They put dog leash on Xiao Bau and headed to the center.
