The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has raised concerns about a significant number of tax evaders in Penang, particularly among sole proprietorship owners, despite the state ranking second in tax collection after Sarawak.
According to Norfaidah Daud, the director of Penang LHDN, this category represents the highest number of tax evaders due to non-compliance. Addressing this issue is crucial, as it could result in a loss of tax revenue for the region.
Norfaidah shared these insights while inaugurating the "Lawatan Konsultasi Hasil (LKH) LHDNM Pulau Pinang" program in Bandar Perda. She highlighted that Penang contributed more than RM7 billion to the Federal Government's coffers last year, accounting for 4.78% of the country's total tax collection.
Last year, LHDN achieved one of its highest tax collections, totaling RM175.4 billion, marking a significant 21.75% increase compared to the previous year.
