Mr. Chen contacted Sinchew to talk about his experience of being deceived by buying durian online last week. He lost RM100 in this scam but he hopes people can aware of this to avoid the same thing happens again.
On May 21, he saw a Facebook page selling fruits claiming that they sold the Musang King Durian with only RM 40 per kg, which was much cheaper than the market price, so he contacted the seller through Whatsapp.
"At that time, the seller claimed that there was not much supply now, and they could only sell me 3 durians for RM100. Then they said that they still have more to sell so they offer to sell me another 3 more for RM200. But I decided to buy 3 durians only at the end. " he said.
He asked the seller to deliver the goods to the house at 3 pm on the same day and the seller agreed. However, he did not receive the durian on time and unable to contact the seller anymore.
"I noticed that it was a scam at that time, so I immediately reported to the police station. I also left a message on the Facebook page to remind everyone to be careful, but my message has been deleted," he said.
He hopes that people can be more alert whenever they do online shopping.
