Don’t Overlook Your Mental Health | Self Care For Introverts

05-Mar-2020

Introverts often get tired of what they have to face every day. This makes it difficult for them to take care of themselves.

Self-care is a challenge for many introverts. Although they know that it is important to replenish energy and sustain their body and mind, they often feel guilty when focusing on themselves. Many introverts also force themselves to socialize, but in the end, they will feel nervous and irritated.

If you feel the same way, the first thing you need to know is that introversion is not a problem. If you need time to be alone, then spend some time alone; if you feel lonely, go out with someone you know. Most importantly, learn to take care of yourself when your body needs it.

1. Take some time to replenish your energy

Whether you are a student or a working adult, there are many things you need to do in your daily life. This does not mean that you do not need to go to school or work and you still need to communicate with others, but you must take care of yourself first.

Don't let yourself be exhausted by your studies or work. Make sure you focus on getting yourself energized. When you are replenishing energy, you don't have to do certain activities. You can be alone, listen to music, read a book, or clean the room.

2. Dare to say no to others

Many introverts have a hard time rejecting others because they think that it is rude to reject others. But if you dare to say no to others, you are protecting your time, energy and mental health.

It is absolutely fine to say no to things you don't want to do. You should follow your heart and not have to feel embarrassed.

3. Don't compare yourself to an extrovert

Our society often presumes that the extrovert is stronger, more popular and successful. This has caused some introverts to force themselves to be extroverted. However, it is unfair to compare an extrovert with an introvert because everyone has different strengths and needs.

4. Reduce your daily stimulation

Many introverts are overstimulated by the environment surrounding them. These include the noise during traffic, a busy work environment, and bright lights that make them uncomfortable and tired. One of the easiest ways to reduce irritation is to turn off the TV while you are at home, stay away from your phone, sit quietly and listen to some relaxing music.

5. Spend your morning and night alone

Many introverts need time to be alone in order to start the day and socialize with others at school or office. If you are married and sleeping with your partner, get up early and give yourself some time alone. Similarly, spending time before bedtime is a great way to relax. This can help you fall asleep faster, and it can also calm your mind so that you can be clearer when you wake up.

6. Spend some time in nature

You would feel free and calm in nature. You could try to walk in the park, be alone, and enjoy the calm power you get outdoors.

If you find walking boring, you can try jogging or running or listening to some music in nature. You could also take a walk with your dog in the park. This is also a great way to stay healthy.
