A video that recently went viral on social media has sparked widespread concern and alarm after it appeared to show a man attempting to abduct a young boy near a vending machine within the grounds of a mosque in SS15, Subang Jaya. However, authorities have clarified the situation, stating that the incident did not involve an attempted kidnapping.
According to Bernama, Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat provided an update on the case. He confirmed that investigations have revealed the 10-year-old boy in the video was not the victim of an attempted kidnapping, as initially suggested by social media posts and shared videos.
The police chief explained that the boy had been approached by the suspect, who inquired about his name and home address. The encounter understandably frightened the child, prompting him to flee to a nearby school for safety. The boy later reported the incident to a local woman, who subsequently shared a video and images related to the event the following day.
Wan Azlan emphasized that while the video circulating on Facebook implied a kidnapping attempt, the reality of the situation was different. The police are investigating the incident under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2021, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The latter pertains to the misuse of network facilities or services, particularly in the context of spreading false information.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when posting or sharing statements and videos on social media. Misleading or incorrect information can cause unnecessary panic and concern, which can be harmful to both individuals and the community at large.
In summary, while the viral video raised significant alarm, the investigation has clarified that the incident involved concerns of a different nature. The police are continuing their work to address the situation appropriately and are calling for responsible behavior from the public when dealing with sensitive issues online.
