A fatal accident claimed the lives of two salesmen when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were traveling in lost control after hitting a water puddle and crashed into a tree. The tragedy occurred at approximately 4:30 PM on Sunday (Nov 17) at KM 45 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road near Kampung Pasir Putih Merchang, Marang.
The deceased have been identified as Ahmad Farid Izwan Mohd, 24, and Muhammad Amir Ikmal Hashim, 20. Both victims were seated in the back of the Nissan Grand Livina when the accident took place.
According to Superintendent Mohd Sofian Redzuan, the Marang District Police Chief, the vehicle was heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Kemaman. It struck a puddle at a bend, causing it to skid and veer off the road before colliding with a tree.
"Both victims, who were in the back seat, sustained severe head and body injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene," Superintendent Mohd Sofian stated.
The driver, Muhammad Shafiq Aizad Yusaini, 26, and the front passenger, Muhammad Razlan Rashidi Abd Razak, 19, suffered head and arm injuries. They were rushed to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for medical treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Forensic Unit at Dungun Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The accident caused chaos at the scene as emergency responders worked to assist the injured and recover the victims.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially during rainy weather, as wet road conditions can pose significant risks.
