Our childhood is now officially over...
Apple has recently announced that they are officially discontinuing iPods, AKA the very first MP3 player capable of storing 1000 songs and bestowing hella street creds to anyone who used to own one during the pre-Spotify era. Since it was first launched in 2001, iPods have come in four different variations: iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Mini, and iPod Shuffle. Out of the four variations, iPod Touch is currently still on the market, but only "while supplies last".
As reported by The Guardian, Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing has stated that "Music has always been part of our core at Apple and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,". He also added that despite the discontinuation, the "spirit of iPod lives on."
We're predicting that the reselling market for iPods will probably witness an increase, and soon it will be treated as one of mankind's greatest antique treasures. But maybe that's just the nostalgia talking. Will you be holding on to yours? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section!
