By winning Best Actress at the 2023 Oscars for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, 60 year old Malaysian-born Michelle Yeoh has changed the course of history. The first Asian talent to have snagged the prestige award, she triumphed over big names in the industry such as Cate Blanchett for Tár and Michelle Williams for The Fabelmans.
With a Bafta nomination for best actress, a Golden Globe win for best actress in a film (comedy or musical), and victories for best actress at the Screen Actors Guild awards, Yeoh has already taken centre stage during awards season.
In her winning speech Yeoh gave the honour to "all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight." She added, "This is the beacon of hope and possibility. Dreams do come true."
"And ladies: don't let anybody ever tell you you are past your prime."
