Police Inspector S.K. Sheila Sharon, who recently gained attention after videos of her berating fellow officers and a member of the public over a parking dispute went viral, responded to her charges today, asserting that she was a victim of both jealousy and discrimination.
In a candid moment with reporters following her morning charges, the 35-year-old inspector shed light on her personality. She acknowledged that her assertive demeanor, loud voice, and uncompromising character had made her unpopular among colleagues. She attributed this animosity to feelings of jealousy and discrimination, stating, "When you shine, not many people like it. As women, when you speak up, men don't appreciate it. But this is who I am, and I cannot change my voice."
Sheila admitted that her superiors had reprimanded her multiple times due to her powerful voice, but she insisted that altering it was beyond her control. "I cannot edit my voice to sound more feminine. Growing up as the eldest of eight children, with six brothers, in a household dominated by males, this is how my character developed," she explained.
When playfully asked about her marital status, Sheila responded with a smile, saying, "I'm still single... because you know, if women are too strict, not many men like it."
Sheila also emphasized her reputation as a highly articulate speaker who had delivered numerous talks organized by the police force since joining in 2017. "I am an officer who doesn't tolerate corruption or compromise. Many people have tried to bribe me, but I stand firm. Serving in the PJ (Petaling Jaya police) district is not easy," she stated.
Elaborating on a previous incident where court police attempted to handcuff her while awaiting bail, Sheila expressed her displeasure, claiming they were attempting to "teach her procedures." She retorted, "Don't teach me procedures... I have been in the force for seven years, and I am well aware of the protocols. As a police officer, why did they find it necessary to handcuff me? Was it an attempt to strip me of my dignity?"
Yesterday, Sheila faced charges related to making criminal threats to intimidate a 69-year-old woman and insulting the modesty of a 41-year-old man, as well as intimidating a lance corporal with the intent to insult his modesty. These charges were brought under Sections 506 and 509 of the Penal Code, respectively.
