Former Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Religious Affairs, Datuk Seri Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, is conducting an auction for a Rolex watch that was a gift from Saudi Arabian King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud. Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri stated that the proceeds from the auction would be dedicated to the welfare of the Palestinian people.
In a heartfelt message, he expressed gratitude to King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud for the generous donation and emphasized the importance of moderation, unity of the ummah, and the preservation of religious values. The decision to auction the Rolex watch was inspired by Saudi Arabia's commitment to contributing billions of dollars annually to support Palestine.
The auction began at a starting price of RM40,000 and allowed bids in increments of RM100.
In a comment update on Facebook, Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri revealed that the highest bid has currently reached RM95,000 at the time of writing.
Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri also shared the backstory of the Rolex watch, mentioning that he received the gift from King Salman in February 2017. However, he did not open the gift until 2021, following his term as a Minister. The gift was bestowed on him after he represented Malaysia's muftis and scholars in delivering a speech before King Salman during his official visit to Malaysia in 2017.
The auction will be finalized on October 31st 2023 at midnight, as per his tweet.
