Four final-year students, including one married individual, from a public university in Muar,Johor were taken into custody yesterday on allegations of drug trafficking after a security guard discovered marijuana in their residential college room in Pagoh.
The suspects, aged 21, 22, 24, and 26, were detained by the police at 2:30 PM following a security alert from the university's security guard, informing authorities of the discovery of 304 grams of marijuana.
Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, confirmed that the illicit substance was discovered during a routine security inspection within a room at the residential college.
"A prompt police response led to the discovery of the contraband, and subsequent urine tests confirmed the presence of marijuana," Azman Aziz disclosed in response to queries.
To aid ongoing investigations, the four students have been remanded for five days. Authorities are actively probing the case, including efforts to trace the origin of the marijuana supply.
"The suspects are currently under remand, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which holds penalties of the death penalty or life imprisonment," Azman Aziz stated.
In the course of today's legal proceedings, a five-day remand was sanctioned for all the suspects, effectively starting today, to facilitate the ongoing police inquiry.
