It will truly be an all-Malaysian battle in the final of the mixed doubles event at the at the 2024 Swiss Open badminton tournament, after Chen Tang Jie & Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat & Shevon Lai Jemie triumphed in the semi-finals earlier this morning.
Tang Jie & Ee Wei, currently ranked at 9th in the world, battled it out against Taiwanese opponents Ye Hong Wei & Lee Chia Hsin, in the match at St Jakobshalle in Basel, which shot them straight into the finals with a convincing straight-sets win of 21-16, 21-12.
The winning streak then continued with world No. 14 Soon Huat & Shevon, as they made their way through the semi-finals with a astounding 37-minute triumph over Dutch opponents Robin Tabeling & Selena Piek, clinching their coveted place in the finals with scores of 21-18, 21-16.
This will be the third showdown between the two national teams, who had previously took the court against each other at the 2023 Korea Open and the 2023 Japan Masters, with each pair securing a victory.
The final of the Swiss Open with our two teams is scheduled for later tonight.
