If the Kardashians were celebrated widely as American pop culture's symbol of excess, local cosmetic entrepreneur Datuk Seri Vida(DSV) could easily be their Malaysian counterpart - thanks largely to her wealth and love for haute couture.
Recently, Datuk Seri Vida's glamorous lifestyle was highlighted by an Indonesian Tiktoker who posted a pricing list with pictures of every designer handbag and apparel previously paraded in public by the woman herself.
Not surprisingly, some of the featured arm candies are not something an average working-class Malaysian could afford. As they ranged from RM7,200 to RM36,997, the tik toker sarcastically nicknamed Datuk Seri Vida "Crazy Rich Malaysia".
For example, the RM7,200 handbag is a Prada from Milan, Italy - while the most expensive of the lot is a Chanel designer handbag from Paris.
However, not to be outdone is a Christian Dior sweatshirt also worn by Datuk Seri Vida that may look casual chic from the outside, but costs a whooping RM23,462.
Even though the TikTok post was originally laced with humor and sarcasm, many who saw it flooded the comments section that they admired Datuk Seri Vida's glamorous lifestyle and yearned to be as wealthy as her.
However, in these uncertain economic times where most people are being financially prudent to survive, do you think Datuk Seri Vida needs to use some tact to avoid hurting the feelings of the less fortunate?
