You've probably binged on plenty of inspiring rags-to-riches movies, such as the Maid in Manhattan or cult classic Pretty Woman. Sure, who doesn't love a fairytale ending. But what if it was the other way around?
I'm talking about life-changing depiction of the super rich (in movies, obvi), whose ostentatious lifestyle suddenly hit a 360. From getting their cards declined to facing a not so privileged reality, these riches-to-rags movies are a must in your watch list. For pure entertainment, of course. *Warning: spoilers ahead*
Material Girls, 2006
The Duff sisters took on the roles of spoiled LA cosmetics socialites in this 2006 rom-com, whose lives fell in the gutter after a major media scandal. Having forced to fled their pampered lifestyle, the broke girls had to work their way up again to restore the family's tarnished reputation, but not without a few hiccups along the way.
From Prada to Nada, 2011
This movie's quite similar to the Material Girls, having revolved around two sisters who were left penniless after their dad's sudden death. An affair came to light, forcing the girls to leave their beloved home behind and move in with their aunt's.
Blue Jasmine, 2013
The movie entails a former New York socialite (played by Blanchett) whose life turned upside down after her husband was caught committing fraud. With nowhere to turn to but her sister, the out-of-touch Jasmine struggled with the newly modest lifestyle, leading to nervous breakdowns.
Entered a promising love interest, she tried to charm her way out of the mundaneness, but not without facing major consequences.
Cate Blanchett nabbed an Oscar for this stellar role.
Spoiled Brats, 2021
The French comedy is currently streaming on Netflix, so be sure to check it out.
It revolves around three spoiled (duh) siblings whose cluelessness and dazed attitudes are upsetting their hard-working dad. He was then forced to embark them on a fake life-changing scenario, in order to teach them a meaningful lesson on reality.
*Spoiler: they weren't broke for real, just had to learn a thing or two about not slacking off*
