The Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Kuala Terengganu were crowded with irate residents on Thursday, a scenario that is all too familiar to Malaysians.
Many people were observed waiting, some of them sitting on the floor, and a couple had to wait up to five hours to finish transactions involving vehicles.
According to Sinar Harian, Dungun resident Wan Nur Mohainizawati Wan Mohamad, 42, arrived at the UTC at 10 a.m. and did not finish transferring ownership of her car until 3 p.m.
She was forced to wait the entire day and cancel her children's tuition classes. She complained, I didnt expect the process to take so long,".
The appeal of the centre among customers from distant places and its longer business hours have been blamed for the overcrowding.
The crowd shocked 50-year-old Azmi Harun from Ajil, Hulu Terengganu, who said things were much better two or three years ago.
Muhd Azizul Kamarudin Mazlan, 40, was forced to visit the counters twice in a row because of the lengthy waits. Despite the high number of clients waiting, he noticed that even the JPJ State Office in Terengganu was equally busy with only two counters running.
