Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, has earned recognition as one of the top cities worldwide for expats to call home, according to the latest InterNations' Expat City Ranking. The city grabbed attention on a global scale, securing the eighth spot globally and landing as the third-best city in Asia among the 49 cities surveyed.
Drawing from the experiences of more than 12,000 expats across the globe, the rankings delved into various aspects of expat life. They examined factors like adapting to life in a new place, managing personal finances, enjoying the overall quality of life, and finding satisfaction in their surroundings. Kuala Lumpur's impressive placement cements its position among the elite global cities for expats, following behind cities in Spain, Mexico City, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Within Asia, Kuala Lumpur holds the second spot, trailing closely behind top UAE cities such as Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. The survey underscored Malaysia's strides in the expat community, spotlighting the country as the fourth-best destination globally for expats to settle, right after Mexico, Spain, and Panama. Notably, Malaysia's significant leap in quality of life rankings, jumping from 44th among 52 destinations in 2022 to a commendable 29th among 53 this year.
