Sin Chew Daily reported that a pregnant lady in Inner Mongolia, China gave birth to a baby with lgG antibody two months after she recovered from the COVID-19. The doctor believed that this shows that antibodies can be passed to the baby through the placenta, so they are immune at birth.
Media in China reported that the pregnant lady was infected with COVID-19 when she was 7 months pregnant on January 31. She was later recovered and discharged on February 21 and her pregnancy result also showed that the baby is healthy.
But the doctor is not sure whether the baby is infected, hence suggested her to have a cesarean section. She managed to deliver a baby girl after an hour of operation on April 8.

After the baby was born, the doctor then collected the amniotic fluid and cord blood to test. The baby was tested twice and all results showed negative. Moreover, the doctor too tested her blood and found out that her blood carries lgG antibody.
The doctor said that this shows that the COVID-19 IgG antibody can be passed to the baby through the placenta. But whether the COVID-19 will infect newborns through amniotic fluid, body fluids, blood, and other channels has not been confirmed.
Media in China too reported that all newborns of recovered COVID-19 patients are not infected with the virus. A few samples from these newborns showed that a small number of newborns can obtain an immunoglobulin, IgG antibody from the mother.
