Pahang State Health Department (JKN) has initiated an investigation in response to allegations made by a mother concerning the tragic death of her two-year-old child due to alleged negligence by staff at a clinic in Bentong.
According to the woman, her child, who was an individual with disabilities (OKU), passed away after not receiving adequate treatment when taken to the clinic on July 12th. She further claimed that the clinic's personnel failed to identify early signs of the problem, resulting in the unfortunate demise of her child.
Dr. Nor Azimi Yunus, the Director of Health in Pahang, addressed the matter in a media statement delivered in Kuantan. He revealed that the deceased patient was a two-year-six-month-old boy who suffered from Global Developmental Delay (GDD) and Congenital Laryngomalacia.
"The patient was brought by the guardian to Lurah Bilut Health Clinic on July 12th at 11:30 am, presenting symptoms of diarrhea that had been ongoing since July 11th," he explained.
Based on the clinic's records, Dr. Nor Azimi stated that the physical examination conducted on the patient appeared normal, with no signs of dehydration detected at the time.
After receiving the appropriate treatment, the child was permitted to return home, as per the director's statement. However, the guardian subsequently took the child to a private clinic on the same day, unsatisfied with the doctor's diagnosis after observing her son's deteriorating condition prior to receiving a referral letter to a nearby hospital.
Dr. Nor Azimi disclosed that the child's condition was deemed critical, leading to an immediate transfer to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) in Temerloh. Despite receiving treatment for five days, the child's condition deteriorated, and the unfortunate passing occurred on July 17th, 2023, at 9:34 AM.
The Director of Health emphasized that the exact cause of the child's death is currently under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
