The Kuala Langat District Police are actively searching for a man in connection with a disturbing case of recording and sexual harassment that took place at a supermarket in Jenjarom.
Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi, the District Police Chief, confirmed that the incident was reported to authorities at 10:36 AM on December 9 by the victim, a local woman. According to the police, the victim noticed that she was being filmed by a local man while at the supermarket.
According to Sinar Harian, after reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene, it was discovered that the suspect had lifted the victim's skirt and attempted to record her from underneath. In response, the police have initiated an investigation under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955.
"Efforts to locate the suspect are ongoing," Superintendent Akmalrizal said in a statement on Monday.
The police have urged members of the public with any information about the incident to come forward. They can either visit the nearest police station or contact the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-31872222.
Authorities have also warned against making any speculative comments that could hinder the investigation.
The case gained widespread attention after a 25-second video of the incident went viral on Facebook. The footage shows the suspect walking towards the woman and then squatting down, allegedly to capture an image from under her skirt. When the woman realized what was happening, the suspect quickly pretended to examine a box at the location.
The police are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend the suspect as the investigation unfolds.
