In an unfortunate turn of events, a visitor's culinary adventure came to an abrupt stop at a busy temple in Johor during a festival to welcome the Year of the Dragon.

A plate of fried rice noodles left a sour taste both physically and figuratively amid the magnificent and the celebratory.

Normally the highlight of these kinds of gatherings, the street food scene found itself at the heart of an unappetizing story when a netizen vented his complaints on Facebook.

He was disappointed because he was expecting a delicious portion of fried rice noodles for RM8 a plate.

"What a shame! I came to the ancient temple in Johor and bought three plates of smelly and sour rice noodles" he complained.

"The food was terrible in both flavour and smell, but the stall owner refused to give it back. The unhappy diner had no alternative but to throw away his food in the closest trash bin. The three plates of fried rice noodles with only fried eggs and sambal were not cheap," he added.

This incident also highlights a widespread issue that exists throughout Malaysia: a general discontent with the quality of food and customer service across a wide range of culinary experiences.

From the sumptuous dining rooms of five-star establishments to the vibrant, scented alleys of street food vendors, customers everywhere complain about poor quality food and uncaring service.

This pattern of complaints points to a structural problem in the country's food business, where the quest of profit sometimes takes precedence over the fundamental values of graciousness and fine dining.

This disturbing tendency affects students' lives and goes beyond eateries and street food vendors.

According to reports, meals served to students whether in school cafeterias or by food businesses that supply educational institutions often fall short of acceptable standards for both flavour and nutritional content.

Poor food quality for students highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to food quality that offers wholesome, enticing options for young learners and raises worries about the wider implications for health and academic performance.
