Remember the RM50 sotong manis fiasco?
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) Sabah took action against the restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, which allegedly sold the overpriced sweet squid dishes.
Zulfamy Mat Udi, Chief Enforcement Officer of KPDN Sabah, stated that the premises were subjected to action and investigation under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 for setting a misleading and unclear price.
He mentioned that the premises were also issued a Notice of Information Confirmation (NPMB) under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.
"This is to obtain information regarding the price of the food in question and is requested to provide feedback within two days.
"Action is also taken under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011, and investigations are ongoing while waiting for feedback from the involved trader," he said in a media statement.
Zulfamy mentioned that based on inspection, the premises did display price tags for every food and beverage sold, including the sweet squid. However, KPDN advised the premise owner to clarify the prices regarding the sizes of the sweet squid.
"For example, the price for small, medium, and large sizes of the sweet squid. Clearer price labeling to avoid consumer confusion," he said. "KPDN also advises the public to inquire with the trader or check the displayed price list before ordering food to avoid confusion."
