M'sian Veteran Actress Loses Hope In Industry When She Was Only Offered RM200 For Acting Role

Wan Maimunah, 65, a reputable veteran actress, expresses her concerns that she and other experienced artists are frequently paid a pittance for their roles in television shows.

She recalled her personal experience, citing that a production firm only offered her RM200 to act in a drama last month.

"I still enjoy acting because it is a part of my life," she said dejectedly. "But when I consider the little I receive for my efforts, it's a better choice for me to stay at home."

The ever-present prejudice and discrimination against veteran talents in Malaysia isn't something new, according to her.

She also stated that due to wage disparities, she is more than ready to accept offers from new production firms to act in because the income offered is significantly more than working with old production companies.
