A middle-aged woman believed to be an Indonesian maid was discovered and rescued from a harrowing ordeal in a flat located in Taman Tenaga, Kajang. The authorities suspect that her employer had confined and imprisoned her against her will.
A concerned resident of Taman Tenaga, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the events that unfolded last Sunday evening. At approximately 9 PM, while visiting a nearby grocery store, he was startled by the sound of a woman's piercing screams emanating from the vicinity of the flats. Determined to investigate, he followed the distressing cries and traced them back to a unit on the second floor.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the resident promptly contacted the police after discovering that the flat was securely locked. Acting swiftly, the law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and forcibly gained entry into the unit. To their horror, they discovered a woman, unconscious and confined with chains, inside the bathroom, as reported by Harian Metro.
Upon contacting Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, he confirmed the distressing case. "We have successfully rescued an Indonesian woman employed as a maid, who had been forcibly confined by a local couple within their residence," he stated. The victim's captivity, it was revealed, was a result of the couple's suspicion that she had stolen jewelry from them.
The authorities have initiated an investigation under Section 342 of the Penal Code, which pertains to wrongful confinement. This incident stands as a solemn testament to the critical significance of safeguarding the rights and well-being of domestic workers, accentuating the ongoing imperative to address issues of abuse and exploitation prevalent within the employment sector.
