An engineer was remanded for four days after being arrested last night for possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
The man, dressed in a white T-shirt and black pants, appeared in court with his head lowered.
Police discovered a large amount of suspected CSAM during a raid on his home in a Bayan Lepas neighborhood.
When questioned, the man admitted to enjoying watching children, describing them as ‘fresh’.
The raid was part of Op Pedo Bersepadu PDRM-MCMC, a joint operation led by Bukit Aman’s Sexual, Women, and Child Investigations Division (D11) in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to target those involved in possessing and distributing CSAM.
The case is being investigated under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, Section 10, for accessing child pornography, and Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene materials.
The operation involved coordinated raids in six states: Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Terengganu, Penang, and Perak.
A recent report by the New Straits Times highlighted the alarming sale of CSAM, including Malaysian-made explicit content, on social media and messaging platforms.
Some of these videos were found to be sold for as little as RM1, raising concerns about child safety.
Senior Assistant Commissioner from Bukit Amans warned that the easy access to such material has made predators more bold, with some attempting to abduct children.
She also noted that the growing addiction to such content has led to cases where children, including primary school pupils, were involved in creating and profiting from CSAM.
