For many Malaysian students studying away from home, especially those from Sabah and Sarawak, the prospect of returning home for holidays can be intimidating due to the high costs of airfare.
However, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) has launched a creative initiative to ease this financial burden.
From March 29th to 31st, 2024, UPNM collaborated with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to facilitate the transportation of students to Sabah via military cargo plane.
A TikTok video shared by a student, Dayang (@grlcloud), offered a glimpse into the experience of flying home with fellow students and soldiers. The Airbus A400M aircraft, operated by RMAF, departed from Subang Air Base, carrying at least 11 students on this journey.
Last year, 20 students were flown home to Sabah and Sarawak for Raya, and in previous years, similar initiatives transported 25 students in 2022 and 18 students in 2021 to Sabah.
