In a heartbreaking incident, a three-month-old baby boy lost his life tragically on his first day at a daycare center in Setia Alam. The Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, confirmed that a report regarding the incident was received from the baby's father at 2:31 pm on Monday. 4th March.
The baby was reportedly dropped off by his father at approximately 8:30 AM. However, just two hours later, the father received a distressing call from the daycare center's manager, reporting that the baby was unconscious.
Efforts were made to save the baby's life as he was rushed to the Emergency Department of Hospital Shah Alam, but unfortunately, he was confirmed dead. A post-mortem was conducted between 12:30 PM and 5 PM the following day at the same hospital, with the results pending laboratory investigation.
Preliminary examinations indicated no signs of external or internal injuries on the baby. The case is currently under investigation according to Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act, which carries penalties of up to 20 years in prison, a maximum fine of RM50,000, or both.
Mohd Iqbal noted that statements from the caregivers and staff at the daycare center have been recorded. Statements from the baby's parents will be taken after funeral arrangements are completed.
The police chief urged the public to refrain from making assumptions about the case until the investigation is concluded. While a media report quoted the baby's grandfather suggesting that the baby might have choked on milk, the official cause of death is yet to be determined.
