Sam Ke Ting's conviction for careless driving, which led to the deaths of eight boys who were riding unlawfully modified bicycles six years ago, was overturned by a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal today.
After the Court of Appeal declared Sam free of all charges today, she spoke to reporters in Malay and claimed that while she acknowledged being a part of the tragedy, she did not intend for it to happen.
"Every moment my soul and thoughts are haunted by the unfortunate incident that night, and I believe I will carry this feeling to the grave," she confessed. In her speech, she mentioned all eight names of the deceased victims.

"But what I say here may not be enough to bring peace to your lives, which I believe is struggling with feelings you should not have felt."
"My words may not bring them back to you but I would like to say that I, too, carry the burden of this tragedy," she continued. "I sincerely apologise, although I realise and understand it may be hard for you to forgive me."
Sam also confessed that over the long years of her legal battle, she reflected on how the lives of the boys and their families might have been.
