Food waste is said to soar during Ramadan in Malaysia, with bazaars reportedly discarding 53 tons of food every day in 2023.
Initiated by the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL), the Fakta Bukan Auta Twitter feed recently highlighted 3 needy shelters where Malaysians can contribute food this Ramadan.
They wrote, Did you know that if you want to donate food to the homeless in KL this Ramadan, you can donate to these 3 locations: Anjung Kembara at the Kuala Lumpur Transit Centre for the Homeless, Medan Tuanku Homeless Service Centre and Chow Kit Community Learning Centre.
Many people in KL may be perplexed as to why they should make donations to these three organizations rather than anybody they like. The reason is that before the donated food is given to the homeless, the individuals in charge of these places will make sure it is safe to eat.
Such an integrated mobilization can help to reduce waste and keep the environment from getting unclean. The food quality initiative is also the most crucial element in this situation.
"The meal should be hygienic and nutritious, even if the person consuming it is homeless. Happy Ramadan."
We sincerely hope that during Ramadan, there will be a considerable decrease in food waste and an increase in generous deeds like food donations.
