Sex, one of the aspects which makes the world go round, is an experience most go through, throughout the span of their lives.
However, growing up and trying to fathom the act, together with the varied teachings based on respective cultures, have more than once blurred the lines between what is true and what is myth.
As a matter of fact, after all the legitimate info out there, there are still made-up truths about sex, many choose to the believe. Here are 7 of them.
1. Sex is only good if it ends in an orgasm
First and foremost, know that sex doesn't always end in an orgasm, and even if it doesn't, that in no way means the sex wouldn't be good. One may or may not orgasm and still have good sex.
Besides that, orgasms can also be obtained without penetration.
2. Popping the cherry means you're no longer a virgin
Virginity is merely a concept and tearing the hymen, does not necessarily mean that one is no longer a virgin. The hymen in general doesn't tell the sexual history of a woman. It comes in different shapes, sizes, and biologically has a slight opening, for discharge to flow.
Some women do not even have hymens, while others easily tear them through strenuous activities. Breaking one's hymen during sex doesn't mean you'd bleed, and hymen-virginity myths are just crafted based on cultures.
3. Women can't get pregnant when they are on their period
This believe it or not, is a myth. Women getting pregnant after engaging in sexual intercourse during their periods, are of course very unlikely. However, it doesn't completely eliminate the possibility of having it happen.
It all depends on the menstrual cycle and ovulation period. Shorter cycles means earlier ovulation stages. To be safe, do use a condom even if you're on your period, during sex.
4. Sex affects athletic performance
As many coaches would have you believe, sex does not affect one's performance before a competition. In fact, should you be nervous, having sex can calm down the nerves, and have you feeling more prepared for what's about the competition to come.
5. Pulling-out is an effective contraception
It could be easy, comfortable and problem-free, except that it's not. This method is dangerous, you can get pregnant no matter how good he is at pulling out, and it would be best you stick with a condom.
6. Men think about sex every 7 seconds
Men surprisingly do not think about sex that often. Based on certain studies, men only think about sex 18 times a day, whereas women, 10 times a day.
7. Sex can cause heart attacks
This is a myth, because sex is not in any way linked to heart attacks. However, if you have experienced a heart attack, then waiting 4-6 weeks after your attack to have sex, is very much advised.
