In a recent incident, a Tesla Model Y caught fire in Puchong, Malaysia, marking one of the first EV fire incidents documented in the country. The incident unfolded at Skypod Residence in Bandar Puchong Jaya, around 8.00 PM. Videos of the event have been circulated on social media, WhatsApp and Telegram since.
The videos revealed that the fire originated from the left front part of the Tesla, eventually spreading and engulfing the entire front trunk area. Notably, there appeared to be no fire emanating directly from the underside of the Tesla, which houses the high-voltage battery, raising questions about the cause of the fire.
Local reports suggest that the Fire and Rescue Department swiftly intervened, extinguishing the fire within 10 minutes. However, the subsequent fate of the car remains uncertain. Tesla recommends monitoring the ambient temperature of a Model Y's high voltage battery for at least 24 hours following a fire incident to mitigate the risk of re-ignition.
