A TikTok video has recently gone viral, drawing attention to food hygiene concerns after a user, Siti (@sity_187), shared her unpleasant experience involving a popular Malaysian dish, pulut sambal. In the video, Siti expressed her deep disappointment and frustration after purchasing a packet of pulut sambal that came wrapped in an extremely filthy banana leaf.

According to Siti, the banana leaf used to wrap the dish was covered in mold, dust, cocoon nests, and numerous white patches, signs that it had not been cleaned properly, if at all. "The banana leaf looked like it was taken straight from the tree without being washed," she said in the video.

Visibly upset, Siti criticized the vendor for such unhygienic practices. "Please, if you're lazy and dirty, don't make food to sell. When wrapping the pulut sambal, didn't you notice the condition of the leaf?" she questioned.

What made the situation worse was the fact that Siti had already consumed a portion of the dish before noticing the unsanitary wrapping. As she opened a second packet, she found a black worm crawling out from the banana leaf.

"Didn't even bother to wipe it clean after picking it from the tree? The problem is, I already ate one, it's disgusting! When I opened another piece of banana leaf, there was a black-colored creature (worm) inside. So filthy," she exclaimed.

The video quickly gained traction, with many TikTok users expressing their disgust and concern in the comments. Several viewers mentioned they had experienced similar situations before, calling for better hygiene standards among food vendors.

While banana leaves are traditionally used in Malaysian cuisine to enhance flavor and add a rustic touch, this incident highlights the importance of proper preparation and cleanliness, especially when food safety is at stake.
