Travelling to Thailand is about to be a little bit more expensive in 2023.
Back in January, Thailand's Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announced plans to introduce a new tourist tax that would in turn be used to assist tourists injured in accidents and boost tourism sites.
It is now officially approved by Thailand's cabinet. Starting June 1st, flying into Thailand will cost foreigners 300 baht or about RM39, while entering the country by road or boat will cost 150 baht or about RM19.
If you're a day traveller, transit passenger or a child below two then the tax will not be applied to you. On the heels of the announcement, some travel and tourism companies saw their shares decline in Bangkok trading, as reported by Bloomberg.
