As long as the COVID-19 has not been eliminated, many people will be still looking for masks and hand sanitizers. However, in a situation where it is difficult to find these items, it is often a matter of a waste of time and energy as well as disappointment to go to the relevant stores.
To make life easier for the people and let the public know more about the inventory of mask in the pharmacy, the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Association (MPS) has created a website called "Where My Mask??" with the voluntary assistance of Wu Wenhui (pharmacist and programmer) and another Malay programmer writer (unknown name, shown in the picture below).
This website has an interactive map that shows the stocks of masks and the latest news of the COVID-19 worldwide.
The map shows the locations of more than 2,000 pharmacies in East and West Malaysia. Furthermore, it uses red, yellow and blue colors to represent the inventory status of masks. Red represents the in-stock; yellow represents sold-out; blue represents the position of the pharmacy and the unknown inventory status of the mask.
This interactive map is free and pharmacies can actively participate in this activity.
As of 12th February 2020, this interactive map showed that not many pharmacies have in-stock status, only about 20, estimating for about 1% of the total number of pharmacies in the country.
The process of updating the information is time-consuming, whereby both volunteers need to take turns to manually collect Facebook pages of pharmacies across the country, and another set of programs is needed to collect the status of the pharmacy's Facebook pages.
The Malaysian Pharmacy Association believes that some owners of pharmacies may be hesitant to join the campaign to display their inventory status of masks. It is also believed that many owners of pharmacies do not know that there is an interactive map program so they have not joined. They hope that the owners of pharmacies can take action to provide inventory status so that the public can check the number of masks and hand sanitizers and purchase them through relevant websites.
Hopefully, this program can bring convenience to people. It is also advisable for the public to purchase with restrictions, meaning that they can ONLY purchase an appropriate amount of face mask.
