In a distressing incident that unfolded on Eco Grandeur Road in Puncak Alam, a five-year-old girl sustained injuries when she was struck by a reversing car in front of a shop. The incident, which occurred around 6:40 PM, sent shockwaves through social media as a 59-second video of the incident quickly went viral.
Deputy Chief of Police of Kuala Selangor District, Deputy Superintendent Ambia Nordin, shed light on the incident. It was revealed that a man in his thirties had been behind the wheel of a Hyundai Elantra, en route to pick up his child from a local kindergarten.
As he arrived at the location, the driver, while reversing to enter a parking space, is believed to have accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal, causing the car to reverse rapidly. Promptly after the accident, the injured child was rushed to Al-Sultan Abdullah Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Hospital in Puncak Alam for immediate medical attention. Fortunately, her injuries were deemed minor, consisting mainly of scratches on her face. She is currently reported to be in stable condition and has been discharged from the hospital.
Deputy Superintendent Ambia Nordin clarified that no arrests were made against the driver following his statement. However, the case is now under investigation in accordance with Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
