A Malaysian netizen recently took to Facebook to express his disbelief after being charged RM10 for two iced barley drinks at a kopitiam, sparking a wave of amused reactions online. The incident, shared anonymously on the page 沙巴大大嘴巴 (Sabah Big Mouth), quickly gained traction for the humorous way the user recounted his experience.

In his post, the user explained that he had been a regular customer at the kopitiam, located near a 7-Eleven in Taman Kingfisher, for over ten years. However, it wasn't until a recent outing with just one friend that the pricing caught his attention.

"Usually I come with a big group, so I never really noticed the prices," he wrote. "But this time, we only ordered two iced barley drinks, and I was shocked not once, but five times when I saw the bill."

Poking fun at the situation, he added, "Is our currency turning into Indonesian Rupiah or have I lost touch with reality? Does this barley drink give you eternal life?" 

Out of caution, the user did not disclose the name of the kopitiam involved.

" I won't say which kopitiam it is,  I can't afford to receive an A4 paper, he joked, alluding to the possibility of being served a legal notice. But I do know one thing, I won't be going there again."

The post struck a chord with fellow Malaysians, many of whom responded with witty remarks and support for the disgruntled customer. While some poked fun at the idea of a life-extending barley drink, others shared similar experiences of unexpectedly high prices at local eateries.

As food prices continue to rise, stories like this seem to resonate more and more with everyday Malaysians, especially when served with a side of humour.
