It is the fifth day of the Movement Restriction Order and we have been spending a lot of time sitting in front of the television or computers. The only exercise we had for these few days might have been just walking from one room to another and this is surely not enough. Despite being unable to go to the park to take our daily exercise, it is important that we stay active and healthy during this 14-day period. Here are a few suggestions on exercises you can do at home to stay healthy.
1. Stretching
Stretching is a great exercise that improves your flexibility and posture. Do this at least 2 to 3 times a week, holding each stretch for about 10 to 30 seconds. Do not push yourself too hard when stretching. You might feel some tension in your muscles while you stretch but stretch only to the point where you do not feel any pain. Remember to warm up before stretching. Here are some videos that you can follow: Anna McNulty and MadFit.
2. Dancing
Dancing can improve your muscle strength and improve your heart function. There are a variety of dances, including Kpop dance, cardio dances or Zumba dances. Pick one that suits you most and start your work out. One of the most popular dances for exercising is this dance by POPSUGAR Fitness that lasts for 15 minutes.
3. Tabata
Tabata is an exercise that is energy-consuming and has been reported to burn fat in a relatively short amount of time. Follow this 4-minute workout with The Fitologists and improve your muscle strength and tone now.
4. Rope jumping
If you have enough space in your house, you can try rope jumping which is very good for improving coordination and your heart's health. It is also very simple, being an exercise that we have learned since young, and all we have to do is skip and jump. You can do this for about 20 to 30 minutes a day.
5. Walking
If you simply don't have enough space or you are not motivated enough to try any exercise, you can try the easiest form that is walking. Walk as much as you can, in between movies or dramas. Try to aim for at least 4,000 steps a day. Do not sit longer than 90 minutes at a time. Get up and jog a little even while you are watching a movie and you will find yourself much healthier in a week.
There are many exercises that we can do even when we cannot go to the park. Staying at home does not mean that we should be living a sedentary lifestyle. Get up and start your workout today. Let us stay fit and active during this 14-day period.
