Where there's a will, there's a way. Students now are so happy and have all sorts of things, including basic necessities, a smartphone, a happy life, etc. With all these things in life, yet there are still people who do not appreciate it. What about those who do not have luxury things or can't even afford a simple notebook?
Look at this hardworking underprivileged boy, Erlande Monter, from the Philippines who used a banana leaf as a substitution for the notebook. This incident was made public by his teacher, who posted on her personal Facebook.
The post has garnered 10,000 likes, over 900 comments, and 5,700 shares. Netizens were commenting on positive feedback, saying that this story is truly inspiring and even some who were asking for the location of Erlande because they wanted to offer him help.
The post portrayed the conversation between Erlande and the teacher. Where the teacher was roaming around the classroom and saw him writing on a banana leaf. After submitting his banana leaf, Erlande jokingly said that the teacher was checking his ‘notes’ to make sure that he copied everything correctly. Not once that he felt embarrassed about his ‘banana note’. And that’s the kind of attitude that is going to bring you forward in life.
The teacher too expressed her thoughts on this incident, encouraging people to put effort into writing, especially those who could afford a notebook.
Erlande later revealed that the reason that he is so determined on getting proper education is that he wanted to become a soldier when he grows up.
Although this incident happened November last year, this boy’s determination goes a long way and it will always be a valuable lesson to everyone in life, regardless of your age, occupation and the life stages that you are experiencing now. Be grateful and appreciate what you have in life.
