In a tragic incident yesterday at Kampung Bakat, a woman courageously rescued her husband's lifeless body from the fast-moving floodwaters. Norzubaila Ramli, 36, found herself amidst a distressing scene after being informed by a villager that her husband, Mohd Kamaruddin Mohamed Yahya, 44, had fallen off a boat and was in dire straits.
Summoning all her strength, Norzubaila, with assistance from a villager paddling the boat, valiantly pulled her husband's body approximately 100 meters to their home. She sensed his passing as he showed no signs of response during the harrowing journey.
Upon reaching home, she, along with her children, carefully brought her husband indoors while neighbors reached out to the fire department for help. Despite repeated calls to her husband, there was no response, adding to the heart-wrenching situation.
Norzubaila recounted that earlier, her family had relocated to a temporary evacuation center yesterday due to the floods. However, today at noon, her husband requested her to briefly return home to check on the house and tend to the nets used during flooding.
Despite their initial intention to address the nets together, her husband insisted on going alone, leaving their child in the boat but later asking the child to disembark, preferring to handle the task alone.
In the midst of their shock and grief, the family has accepted this tragedy as fate. Norzubaila expressed the hope for swift procedures in handling her deceased husband.
Pasir Mas District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Kama Azural Mohamed confirmed receiving a report regarding the incident. The deceased was transported to the Forensic Unit of Pasir Mas Hospital (HPM) for further investigation.
Our heart goes out to Norzubaila and her children, and we hope they receive necessary aid during this crisis.
