On the vacant lot in front of its multi-story parking structure at Penang International Airport, a high-end shopping mall called Mitsui Outlet will shortly be constructed.
Sim Tze Tzin, a Bayan Baru MP, made the announcement after the airport administration gave a briefing on its development goals and its current state of affairs.
Prior to the pandemic, there had been plans to construct the Mitsui Outlet; however, these plans had to be delayed because of congestion at the airport. The mall and the airport extension project will be built at the same time, according to Sim.
He stated that the traffic issue must be rectified first because it is anticipated that once the Mitsui Outlet is operating, it would draw a lot of visitors and cause traffic congestion.
