The Selangor government is taking steps to tighten concert regulations following the tragic deaths of four individuals at a New Year's Eve event earlier this year. Authorities are now considering new measures aimed at preventing drug-related incidents at concerts.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that one of the proposals submitted to the state government and the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) includes a requirement for concert organizers to display No to Drugs signs or placards at events.
"Previously, the ban on drug use at concerts was only mentioned on tickets. With these signs in place, we hope to reinforce the message and curb drug use more effectively," Hussein said. He added that these conditions would be incorporated into concert permits issued by local councils.
In addition to the signage requirement, authorities are looking into stricter measures for concert organizers. The police also plan to increase their presence at events to monitor for potential drug use.
Hussein emphasized that the new regulations are not meant to discourage concerts but rather to ensure they are conducted in a responsible manner. "This proposal is not intended to hinder concerts but to prevent further tragedies, especially in Selangor," he said.
The move comes after a January report confirming that several individuals had died from ecstasy use at a concert in Bandar Sunway. Following the incident, police and state officials began exploring ways to enhance safety measures at large-scale events.
By implementing these new rules, Selangor hopes to create a safer environment for concertgoers and prevent similar incidents in the future.
