Reported earlier by mStar that a stewardess who has shown symptoms of COVID-19 fled the hospital, although the report had been confirmed to be true, the identity of the patient is not a stewardess, as an updated report by Oriental Daily clarified.
Not only that the updated report clarified the identity of the patient, it further disclosed that the 21-year-old lady is suffering mental illness as well.
The head of the police district of Kerian, Superintendent Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob explained at a press conference yesterday (March 25) that, it is important to release the true details to the public. He added that the patient went to the Hospital Parit Buntar on Monday (March 23) as she was feeling unwell.
She was placed in an isolation room due to the showing of COVID-19 symptoms.
"Unexpectedly, at about 9.30 that night, the hospital found that the patient had left the hospital without permission. After leaving the hospital, she hid in a house in Nibong Tebal, Penang," he added.
The patient showed up at Hospital Parit Buntar the next day (March 24), accompanied by her male friend. She was then transferred to Hospital Taiping for further inspection for COVID-19.
Omar Bakhtiar too mentioned that doctors had examined the mental condition of the patient and found out that she has symptoms of mental disorders.
As for her identity, as a stewardess, is confirmed to be fake, the patient had ONLY traveled to Kuala Lumpur for a month's flight attendant course.
"This case will be investigated under section 22 (B) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988."
On the other hand, he said that the police would also investigate a 26-year-old man who was with the patient. Although the woman called him brother, the police found that they are not siblings and that they had only known each other a week ago.
