Individuals in Malaysia whose earnings fall within the T20 income group will no longer receive haj subsidies from Tabung Haji (TH), as confirmed by Datuk Dr. Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Religious Affairs.
Mohd Na'im stated that this policy, which excludes Muslims in the T20 income bracket from receiving haj subsidies, has been implemented. Consequently, those in this income group are now required to pay the full cost of their haj pilgrimage.
He did not provide specific details regarding when this policy was put into effect.
Additionally, Mohd Na'im noted that last year, a group of 400 individuals in the B40 income bracket chose not to accept or receive the full subsidies from TH in their pursuit of a "mabrur haj" (a pilgrimage accepted by Allah). These individuals voluntarily relinquished the subsidies to help those who genuinely needed them.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of restructuring subsidies to benefit target groups like the B40 income group. He pointed out that Malaysians in the T20 income bracket were no longer eligible for haj subsidies from TH, as announced earlier.
Anwar's remarks came as part of his call for more targeted subsidy allocation, particularly in cases such as haj subsidies where individuals earning substantial incomes no longer receive them.
