A former employee of The Hub Coffee Roasters has recently come forward with her brief yet deeply traumatizing experience in working there as a barista trainee.
According to Melissa, she was constantly patronized by one of the baristas and forced to endure verbal abuse for weeks before deciding to resign.
When the issue was previously brought up to her former employer, she was simply dismissed and although they promised to take action, nothing much was changed.
In retaliation to Melissa's statement, The Hub Coffee Roasters presented their own version of the story. (edit: the post has now been removed.)
That, however, did not end there. The owner himself took the liberty to leave a comment on Melissa's post as well.
Random Instagram users then came to Melissa's rescue, berating him for his lack of credibility. Some questioned his decision in defending the rude barista instead of acknowledging the racial discrimination that Melissa was facing throughout her employment.
After all the attacks, we're guessing The Hub Coffee Roasters have finally come to their senses. The owner himself has issued another apology in a long heartfelt statement.
Well, that was quite the roller coaster ride.
Nonetheless, kudos to Melissa for speaking up. We hope this will serve as a warning for all the Joeys out there that racism will never, ever, be a good color on anyone.
