Popular Dangdut singer Baby Shima has surprised her fans with a recent announcement via Instagram on July 24th, revealing her decision to step into the world of politics. The singer, whose real name is Nor Ashima Ramli, will be competing as an independent candidate in the upcoming state elections on August 12th.

In her announcement, Baby Shima expressed her dedication to serving and defending the people, particularly the youth, by following in the footsteps of other artists who have ventured into the political arena. While she anticipates criticism for her decision, she remains undeterred, believing that her cause will gain significant support.

"I can't stop if someone wants to criticize me. All I want to do is help the community. There will be cynics, but there will also be those who will support my good intentions... everything is for the people," she stated confidently.

Understandably, her unexpected move into politics has elicited mixed reactions from the public, with some Malaysians expressing skepticism, while others seem supportive of her decision.

Besides Baby Shima, local rapper and songwriter Altimet, also known as Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, has been announced as one of the 20 candidates representing Pakatan Harapan, who will be competing in Selangor's state election.

Whether or not this announcement from the singer is satire or genuine, only time could tell.
