It came as shocking news to have learned that a Penang-born 16-year-old boy, S.K. Logamitraa, studied in SMK Jalan Damai had committed suicide on the 6th of February after allegedly claimed that he was being ‘targeted’ by his teachers in school.
The deceased was found in his room by his mother, who hanged himself from a blanket tied to the ceiling fan in his room. He was pronounced dead upon the arrival of the hospital. Having to suffer from the pain of losing their loved one, Logamitraa’s family is seeking answers to his death.
According to The Star, Malaysian Tamilar Kural president, David Marshel, responded on behalf of the family, expressed that they believed that Logamitraa was potentially suffering from depression due to the problems he faced at school and wanted to know if he was being mistreated.
David further explained that everything started when the deceased, who was in the second last class, requested to change to a better class since the start of the new school session. However, his request was denied.
According to the New Straits Times, Logamitraa was shamed and reprimanded by certain teachers on his hair, attire and such.
“Last month, Logamitraa was made to take off his trousers after teachers claimed it was tight-fitting and made him wear shorts for the rest of the day. Even his favorite key chain, which had been with him for a long time, was taken away from him as teachers claimed it was a sharp object,” added David.
Logamitraa’s family members were too distraught to speak to the reporter and they were demanding an answer from the school. His schoolmate too mentioned that they were extremely devastated that he took his life.
Bullying is intolerable, regardless of the reason behind the act or the identity or status of the bully. Let’s hope that the truth will be revealed and the bullies will receive the punishment that they deserved. May the deceased rest in peace.
